New Morning

“If dogs run free, then why not we…”
— Bob Dylan, 1970

If dogs have fleas —– then why not me?
I wonder wondering if our magnificent
trees whose farthest-out leaves’re dead
or dying and crying for help, instead
of spring fever green as well as right
about now, totally beginning to get
covered up by extensive networks
of some moss-like stuffing rather
than the much more usual honey
bee, yellow jacket plus lady bug
traffic — are they really starting
to succumb…. but it ain’t to
that wild oak disease which
off-on must sadly be treated
for over last four decades,
nursing them back from
ledge of their very edge
— but evidence of first
human into plant life
virginal transmission,
(her cattails got it too)
damn Coronavirus?
