Sunny Morning After the Big Blizzard

Snowy pathway surrounded by bare tree

SUNNY MORNING AFTER THE BIG BLIZZARD

The weight of it
settled and still,

the world quiet
except for birds
around their feeder,

and the furnace
like the engine
of a submarine.

There is nowhere to go
until the plows come;

here, suddenly,
our prayers answered,

cozy refugees
marooned together,

snow waist high
against the kitchen door.
