Spring showers petal the pavement
with spent dogwood and azalea.
An invisible piano spills Chopin
from an open window.
A young woman hurries past,
laughing with her swaddled child.
Cars swish in the roadway, spraying
the afternoon with tiny rainbows.
I come to a crossing of streets,
watch white and pink fragments
slide, smooth as baby oil,
into the darkness of the storm drain.
