Ornithophily
Jared Green

Does the heliotrope know
of the subtle influence of sunbirds

or the bellflower what transpires
as the white-eye enters its throat?

What does the ovule-summoned hummingbird
make of her wing -blurred color

or the sunburst of pollen
wreathed around her head?

When is the moment
in the violent spasm of her flight

that she knows how furiously
her heart is beating?
