He spread the seeds across the soil with care,
the way the rain sets moisture down just where
it needs to be. He worked in quietness
and solitude. He sent his thoughts to bless
the seeds, and sent his silence as a quilt
around them. Then he felt the world tilt
toward happiness, and then a lovely sheen
of gladness spread inside him, soft and green.

I am a retired teacher. For about 40 years, throughout my teaching career, I have been writing poetry and short fiction, but only recently, in retirement, have I found the time to start submitting my work for publication. I am a husband, father, grandfather, bicycle rider, kayaker, and juggler. Thanks for considering these poems.
