You are holder of water,
no seed to stem germinating,

neither with roots nor flowers
but rhizoid structures

that thread over objects
to fasten themselves

setting up where
droplets of water
will merge male cells

with female egg, hidden
for fertilization rising
into sporophyte with cap

that when tipped over
will scatter again
birth—several hundred thousand

invitations sent airborne
to willing ground open, waiting.
