In the beginning
before any burning bush
God was fire alone
it must be so
for what is God if not life?
what is life if not fire?
creation erupts from
embers flung about
by raging God-fire
air water earth
temper the spirit
crafting a palatable ferocity
pity the cold drenched
souls diluted
living as safely as dust
