Westmoreland Co. Dogwood

Westmoreland Co. Dogwood

And on our left
there was Dogwood in full bloom –
with it’s white petals flowering
in their usual bountiful outward expansion.

We drove up the hill
in search of quiet comfort
for some form of
shared space on the cusp of
near-twilight induced solace.

I’m not quite sure
what it was that came over me
on the ride back home
on that long stretch of
Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Unsure of whether it resided in
the past, present, or future.

Whatever it was
it was there in full bloom,
cleansing my freshly aged cheeks from the early-evening sun
on the cusp of all that’s full and fleeting.
