Coltsfoot

The first burst of spring’s velvet sunshine

Arrives as trotting wild miniature golden horses

Coltsfeet, stamping up and out of the muddy creeks and riverbeds

Its glorious yellow dandelion face, as delightful as a daisy,

Persuading the melting snow breeze to give way

to the melodies of the chipping sparrows,

the drumming of the downy woodpeckers, and

The glorious robin’s declarative chant,

“Springs Here”!
