Two dark birds perch before the dawn
moon. They each flew a long time
to reach these high branches. They knew
many fields, ripe and fallow, and other
limbs, bare and needled, budding
and in full leaf. They called and heard
their calls answered and also the silence
of no answer. Now together, held
and buffeted by each phase and weather
they make little sounds and lean
into their feathers feathering together.
