Beyond the steep ridges jutting skyward,
Steel grey clouds gather, their edges black.
Thickening billows catch on pitched mountain peaks and begin to fray.
They bleed dark torrents of rain in the distance, obscuring the horizon.
A watercolor gone awry.
Reeds at water's edge bend under the whisper of the storm's breath.
Silent ripples repeat over the silver surface, heron arches into flight.
Feel the turbulent heralding before the summer storm hits.
Weight of moist air on exposed skin.
Leaves begin to twist torturously in the wild wind;
Thick with the hot breath of summer, inhaling the cool force advancing.
Silver bellies of leaves glint in the sunlight as they spin.
Witness to approaching storm.
Suddenly it breaks, crashing all around. Summer sun obscured.
Silken surface now percussive.
Sky unleashed on earth as the storm exhales.
Cleansing breath.

Running through the woods, splashing in a pond, and climbing trees with her brothers are some of Nora's favorite memories. Moving thirteen times in twenty years as a military spouse allowed her to experience the mountains of Germany, rainforests of Brazil, and stunning sunsets in the Mojave Desert, each reflecting nature's intricate beauty. Nora and her family enjoy long hikes, time with friends, and finally putting down roots. noracarman.author@gmail.com
