At the pond, so many things happen that do not provide humans with any economic benefit, but involve lives that are no less valid than ours. The three photos show a mass emergence of Common Baskettails (dragonflies) from the pond on a cloudy day in late May, a mating pair of Green Darners seeking a suitable place for the female to lay her eggs, and a frog waiting for lunch to fly within reach.
Martha Nance is a physician who lives in Minnesota near a pond, which provides her with all sorts of reasons to tromp quietly through the tall grass all summer long. She has previously published photographs in Tiny Seed, one of her favorite literary journals!
