Picture Me, an Oxbow Lake

body of water and green field under blue sky photo
Away from life’s swift currents
Curved like a new moon
In the early evening sky.

I begin my slow evaporation,
No river to sustain me
In my dwindling years.

I hold dear memories
Both tender and tragic,
And deserve this placid rest.

Come now, dip your toes in.
My cool waters still refresh
And I love the sound of children laughing.
