Our days begin uphill
The route the same:
sun, snow, fog, rain ―
how many hundred mornings?
Each unique.
We walk, six legs together;
two and four,
pause where fields roll out of forests
to receive scent of raspberries,
grapevine tendrils,
fringe of autumn grasses,
goldenrod dry on the stalk,
paperwhite beech leaves,
first redwing blackbird,
milkweed flowers.
Our song ascends
toward vaulted arch of oaks;
gratitude for perfect mornings,
miracles, and our sacred connection:
putting feet to ground.
