Anyway

full moon over cornfield in wabasha minnesota

god made a mess of the sky
splashing moonlight in the grass
in the field deserted
she took to the side roads
those hidden trails
for chanting and white breath, foot by foot pressing
down further on the way

the september cold abandoned all her regrets
melted the sorrow in the silver light she sang an
alone song to
weave the blue and black night
to heal the eyes

she walked on
having never forgotten the wind that blows that’s
what she told me, anyway
