Chesapeake Bay: August

the ocean under the moonlight

Sails billow
Sweltering day vanishes
The old wooden boat skims over the water
following a path of rippling moonlight

I trail my hand in the frothing wake
Water streams over the varnished hull
The shore’s an inky brushstroke
The world blurs

We are pirates
sailing across time
flying over the bay
Moonstruck
