Once on a winter’s night the dog and me
were at once evasion and serenity
We were delusional and at peace.
He juked up as if to say the craic’s not good
with me at all. You’ll be on these freezing
walks with only blanched lemon moons
There was a wateriness and he licked the air around
my face like a loop of plum or belly of Bluefin.
I whispered as he reduced amongst the flakes of snow,
‘no estimated time of arrival…no five minutes until curtain.’
