The Longing

tranquil lake view with empty park bench

I long for silence.
I long for short sentences.

I long for the kind of quiet where I can hear humans breathing in a room,
or feel my own pulse in the stillness.

I want to sit here and pause.
And I want others to want that, too.

I want to sit with you in silence and feel the richness of the space between potential and kinetic
energy.

I want to hear the small, wild sounds and movements we humans make — the grunts, the sighs,
the sneeze, the scratch.
I want to see you staring off into space,
biting your nails,
next to me.

I want this kind of safety in our world,
this simplicity.
This kind of connection.

A curious wanderer at heart, I feel grateful to be alive and I find joy in life’s simple moments. I like to run long distances, be among the redwood and oak trees, and enjoy company with my husband and our pup. I’m a holistic psychotherapist in California, and believe in the ripple effects of kindness, authenticity, and love.
