Dear Tiny Seed community,
We are excited to announce the winners of our “Through the Eyes of Nature” creative contest!
Each of the 72 submissions we received was unique and creative in its own way, and took us on a journey from the depths of the ocean to a silent swamp, from the canopies of a threatened forest to a backyard garden, from a tiny moss on a roof to a vast planet in outer space. We thank each and every one of you for sharing your journey with us.
Congratulations to Johanna Caton, O.S.B., who won 1st place with her poem, “Sea’s Love-Song to the Wind.”
Johanna Caton, O.S.B. is a Benedictine nun of Minster Abbey in England, but she was born in the United States and lived there until adulthood, when her religious vocation took her to the United Kingdom. She writes poetry as a way of understanding and celebrating the presence of God in her life. Creation often speaks to her of the love of the creator, and she reflects on this in many of her poems. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The Christian Century, The Green Hills Literary Lantern, The Windhover, The Catholic Poetry Room website, and other print and online venues.
For the 1st prize winner, Tiny Seed Journal will sponsor an injured sea turtle through ARCHELON, The Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, on Sister Johanna’s behalf.
Congratulations to Amy Gordon, who won 2nd place with her poem, “History of the River.”
Amy Gordon is the author of ten books for children and young adults. Her first chapbook of poetry, Deep Fahrenheit, was published by Prolific Press in 2019. She lives in Western, Massachusetts by the Connecticut River.
For the 2nd prize winner, Tiny Seed Journal will sponsor a loggerhead sea turtle nest through ARCHELON, The Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, on Amy’s behalf.
