Life changed in a moment,
Breaking the dam of all that I knew.
Waters crashed my body,
Sunk me like a lost ship.
Buried deep in cold, heavy dirt,
An icy, stinging death.
Yet, even ice glistens in the dim light of morning.
Frost bitten grass still glimmers with hope.
When I was certain there would be no more air,
Frozen in perpetual mourning,
The ground began to shift.
Earth gave way to a slow thaw,
Melting the stiffness, water knows how to transform.
Emerged from dense soil,
Warmed by the soft sun,
I heard a faint voice.
It sang with the drizzle of rain,
Sobs drowned by claps of thunder.
Sorrows released in the rolling storm as it swept the landscape.
The streams still flowed,
Never ceasing their journey to creeks, rivers…the ocean.
On this morning,
The air hangs with the fullness of stillness.
Mist hovering over sleepy lake water,
Cloaking the mysteries my heart isn’t sure how to hold.
I wonder what I have awoken to,
Watching a spider dance across her web,
Ornate with dew drops,
Swaying in the wind.
This is her morning to begin anew.
