Ecosystem of a Stone

photography of stones

After Sea Structure II by Phil Dike

I
The sun doesn’t seem
to understand a constant
spasm. Count it –
every 5-7 seconds
for days/weeks.

II
The sea instructs about
ebb and flow. The crashing
sound surrounds. Seagulls
shout. Sand turns gray.
The sun haunts encircled
by a taut stroke of fog.
No salty taste.
No appetite. No sleep.

III
The ecosystem
of a smooth stone
rests in my hand.
Engulfs my sight.
Survivor of tides
holds the language
of when I will feel better.
